Planning OR Starting: The ULTIMATE Decission... OR not?
Sometimes it can be pretty difficult to translate an inspiration into a form that’s presentable, and is hopefully fun to read. When writing a weekly blog, for those scenarios, I have a list of all the things that I’d like to write about one day (no, I don’t have pre-written posts ready for rainy days, haha). Updating that list every couple of weeks makes for a good filter on what’s a good idea to write about and what counts only as a fling with an idea that was just passing by. And sometimes the ladder works, too. Seeing that list change and evolve says a lot about the priorities we have, and how something can reach a »life-and-death« level of importance today, but will be over and forgotten tomorrow. In any case, writing a weekly blog is a good remainder how our days consist of changes – the only thing that is constant, is that everything is always in motion.

One of the things from my list of themes, that I’ve wanted to write about for a while, is how Starting something is always better than Planning something. In my experiences, ranging from designing, writing, meditation, being a dad, hobbies, sports (I could go on here), I’ve come to realize that if I PLAN, I GET STUCK. And to be honest, until I started practicing meditation, I had been someone that planned a lot. I over-thought and over-planned most of the things, that I thought I needed or wanted to do, so I did very little. Meditation opened up a new approach to life for me, and so, I thought, it’d be awesome to share this view in my blog. I was inspired to help others get unstuck!
I recently started working as a creative lead / director on a commissioned short animated film. Great, I’m super excited and thankful for the opportunity! But god, was I being silly with all that start/plan non-sense! We’ve been prepping, talking, planning, strategizing for quite some time now, because sometimes, it really is the only way to actually start doing something, duh! It’ll always be a nice sentiment - starting is better than planning - and in a lot of cases, it really is. But you know, life doesn’t really care about sentiment. It doesn’t care if a dude has a list for writing a weekly blog. Life is too busy changing. And now I know, that sometimes it’s good to plan. And sometimes it isn’t. Ha!
