Statistics
Before I picked creative arts as the thing I’d study in pursuit of my dreams, I originally wanted to study sociology – specifically, statistics in sociology. Or psychology. Or astrophysics. But mainly statistics. I’ll forever be thankful to my parents for the nudge in the creative direction. But before casting my final vote for studying art, my belief had always been that a job has to be something serious, while creativity can only be a hobby. It’s a dream. Sure, maybe you get lucky one day and something you create gets noticed, which is when you get the opportunity to pivot your life. Happy days. But until then, one has to be serious. I was 100% sure I was right. I viewed creativity only as a by-product of doing something else. Nothing that is fun can be an actual job, right? I believed it’d help if I was interested in the chosen »serious« topic at least – and statistics in sociology interested me (enough).
JOB = existence; CREATIVITY = fun & happiness ?
Even though my journey has pivoted me to a different plane of exploration, reading up on sciences such as psychology, astrophysics, quantum physics AND sociology is now my hobby, and inspires a lot of my creative work. It’s fun and rewarding to watch the plot twist unfold, where my intended job and hobby switched, but still fuel each other. I love and enjoy being a creative wholeheartedly, but I’m now sure that fun and happiness can be found in any chosen path.
MISCONCEPTIONS LEAD TO SEEING CLEARLY.
Regardless of past choices and where we land, we’re all in pursuit of a greater sense of ease and peace, albeit using different tools and dreams. Learning to use them better is the fun part of the journey. I now believe that statistically speaking, there’s only a 50-50% chance of me being on the “best” path - and it’s the non-guaranteed percentage that makes things exciting and engaging. Once we understand that dreams are fuel only, we get to start enjoying the scenery and to see the happiness of the pursuit.
